History
• Born 9.12, Nevarra. Oldest of four siblings. Her mother and father are port merchants; the whole family lives comfortably in Cumberland
• Gela is raised with the idea of taking over the family business, which she does when her mother retires due to chronic illness
• She enjoys her life. Her family is well liked and popular down at the ports, she has a good social circle, and a steady relationship. She travels to Nevarra City often for both business and pleasure
• When she is 28, a rogue member of the Mortalitasi catches her along one such journey from Nevarra City to home. Ferrant Marais is experimenting with the effects of transformative, shapeshifting magic upon the wellbeing of souls, and if those effects carry over into death. Gela is his fourth victim
• He kidnaps her, and has her bitten by his original victim. She is infected with lycanthropy
• Marais, proving far too eager in his method research, is unable to keep control of four werewolves. They overpower him, and escape
• Gela kills the youngest of the experimental pack (a little boy, the first turned), and disappears into the Planascene Forest. She remembers some but not all of this, as her memories are extremely hazy from being feral. She ravaged Cumberland upon occasion, killing her fellow Nevarrans and destroying houses, marketplaces, and is never caught despite the town's best efforts
• She is a werewolf for three years (age 28-31). Once the Mortalitasi unearth that this happened they send members after her and the rest, following local word to track down the roaming experiments
• When Gela is finally caught, instead of being killed, she is cured. The Mortalitasi keep her sedated, and deliver her back to her family to tie up loose ends
• During the time she's away her mother and two of her siblings die from illness. Her father blames Gela for the deaths, insisting that her sudden disappearance caused the family unbearable stress. Gela is also scapegoated for the failure of the family business; she is turfed out, and told not to return
• Gela doesn't try to get in touch with anybody else in Cumberland before fleeing
• She takes to travelling (age 31-present). She is wary of staying in one place for too long because she dreads turning back into a werewolf at a moment's notice, and ruining everything around her
• Tailoring is a skill you can take any where. Her way of life becomes extremely modest. She saves her coin for visiting healers, in the hopes that they can help her. Every healer is insistent that she is fit and healthy, but she doesn't believe them, because of the dreams she often has at night
Personality
• People pleaser: She would prefer it if everybody liked her. If she's well-liked she can't be easily cast out, a fear that stems directly from being treated as 'bad luck' by her family. She believes that about herself wholeheartedly. As a result she strives to listen patiently to just about anybody who will speak to her, and she enjoys giving frank, honest, and helpful advice.
• I know something you don't. I know something you will never know: While she's more than happy to attend to other people's problems, she is reluctant to truly speak about herself. She is fine with going into detail about the fact that she's been travelling for a long time now, and that she had a falling out with her family, and that she misses them, but she isn't at all inclined to talk about exactly why all of that happened. Often, she will make things up. She thinks of who she was before she turned as a different person, one she was proud of, and misses being.
• That bad luck thing: Gela assumes she is not very nice to have around, and that she carries misfortune with her. She's very careful with her actions, and overthinks before she leaps. She is extremely superstitious.
• Hypochondriac: She was a werewolf for years, and doesn't remember much of what happened to her while she was changed; part of her is still very afraid that she hasn't been cured, and that she's still carrying a bit of werewolf around inside of her that could be unleashed at any moment. She is one hundred percent fine. You know, aside from the PTSD.
• Love me love me say that you love me: Gela wants family. She wants friends and lovers and rivals and enemies. She craves human connection; she is no lone wolf. It's why she keeps seeking people out, even though she's ultimately afraid of hurting those closest to her. She isn't content to let herself waste miserably away, even if she's worried that's all she deserves.
• Well-prepared: She has been fending for herself long enough that she knows her way around basic survival. Gela is the type to have weird, creative home remedies for literally anything, ranging from bee stings to broken wrists. She mends all her own clothing. She reduces, reuses, and recycles. She cooks, but not well.
Opinions & Affiliations
• Mages: Untrustworthy, best left alone. Would side with them against the Templars in a war out of fear
• Mortalitasi: Fuck em, but what can you reasonably do when they have that much political sway
• Chantry: Was faithful and no longer believes in the Maker. If a higher power existed it wouldn't have let any of that happen to her
• Other races: Naturally gravitates toward anybody who also feels outcast
Strengths & Weaknesses
• Very good at reading people. Quiet, and can blend easily into the background after years of practice. Good at saying exactly what people want to hear
• Jack of all trades, sort-of-good across a range of subject matter. Has tried most things at least once
• Volunteers for anything if she thinks it'll get her brownie points
• Will laugh so hard at your joke. Maker's breath, you are so funny! Please like her
• Fluent in Nevarran and Trade, has picked up bits and pieces of others along her travels (ie swear words)
• Refuses to go anywhere near Nevarra for personal reasons
• Would rather not fight and will bend over backward to get out of combat situations. Knows how to defend herself for emergencies only
• Feral-leaning. Considering Riftwatch as a whole I didn't know if I should put this into the strengths or weaknesses column
• She's odd. She looks like she's from all over the place. She sounds like she's from all over the place. Scruffy
• Flighty. Packed and ready to go at a moment's notice and will fuck off if she feels unsafe
Inventory
Pack, containing: sewing kit, extra clothing, extra pair of shoes, wooden-handled knife, what is essentially a first aid kit, tiny bit of jewelry hidden in a secret pocket she made herself.
Motivation
Riftwatch is full of strong, able people who ready for the worst to happen at a moment's notice, right? So they're probably the only settlement that could... deal with Gela, should the worst happen to her. Also she would like to talk to a healer immediately, thank you
